« CHANT D'OISEAU », A VERY SPECIAL PIECE FOR LOUIS-ÉTIENNE SANTAIS
After the successful release of two singles this fall, Louis-Étienne Santais presents "Chant d'Oiseau", a third composition before the release of his album.
In the summer of 2021, in the Gaspesie Park, in a tent in the middle of a rather wild space, Louis-Étienne wakes up to the song of a bird in the middle of the night. The very particular bird stands out clearly among the other chirps: a melody of three long notes and slightly supernatural colors. He takes out his phone and imitates the whistle to make sure he remembers it. Back home, he pulls out his recording, starts playing this melody and the piece manifests itself in a few hours. You can clearly hear the notes of the bird's song in the first few seconds of the piece. The harmony is nostalgic and has a bittersweet style, like the last pages of a long book or a summer love ending.
The sound recording of the piece took place at Studio PM on a Steinway upright piano with a felt cloth to soften the sound. The intention is to create a hyper-intimate and imperfect sound space due to the artifacts produced by the instrument.
