MATT MOLN UNVEILS HIS DEBUT ALBUM « SAINT-OURS »

Quebec City, February 7, 2025 - Matt Moln's debut album is finally out! After an acclaimed appearance on Star Académie in 2021, and the release of several singles over the past year, the artist takes another step forward with Saint-Ours.

The album is imagined as a mystical experience in which an encounter with a beast (a reference to Pierre Perrault's La bête lumineuse) triggers a profound reflection on transmission, identity and the invisible links that unite generations. Matt Moln's characteristic introspection is combined with bold arrangements that oscillate between soaring softness and bursts of raw energy. The result is a distinctive tone: continually tragic, but always tinged with a light irony.

“At the beginning of the album, when the protagonists find the beast, it's lying on the ground, suffering, and after all, mad and dying. It's sick, and the characters, having seen it, will be affected by it. This plays on the idea of heredity: physical and psychological pathologies are passed down through the blood (or so we tell ourselves). Or (and this is the mystery and the source of the paranoia), we don't pass them on at all.” - Matt Moln

The lyrics play on the ambiguity between dream and reality, while sonic reminders and interwoven melodies reinforce the impression of a dreamlike journey. As the album progresses, it becomes colder, more minimalist, as if gently retreating into silence.

Tracks already unveiled, such as “Tragique décès d'une âme sensible” and “Dormir debout”, heralded a duality between poignant sensitivity and musical ambition driven by complex, immersive arrangements. With Saint-Ours, Matt Moln takes this exploration a step further.
