GASPARD EDEN PRESENTS “APPLE CORE”
“Apple Core”, the new single by Gaspard Eden, is a haunting, minimalist piece that explores loss, the afterlife, and dreams. As the first song he recorded straight to tape on his Tascam 388, Eden embraced the constraints of the format, stripping the arrangement down to its essence.
Finger-picked, open-tuned acoustic guitars, clarinets reminiscent of Eastern wind instruments such as the duduk, and carefully blended mid-range elements create a soothing, organic space for his intimate, stark performance.
Boy, you will sleep outside
No matter where the evil lies
But it isn’t me you’ll find
Only the filthy flies
The song’s cryptic, almost reckoning lyrics unfold like a dreamt conversation between a deceased father and his son, an attempt to reunite in a space that only exists in dreams, yet always remains just out of reach. With “Apple Core”, Eden processes the loss of a father, reaching out in the only way left to him, through the elusive language of dreams.
